Ada and VHDL are very much alike. Now, I'm not sure which came first?

From some net roaming, it seems like Ada was first and VHDL is "an Ada like language". The fact the Ada had a 83' standard and VHDL's first is 87' (as far as I know) supports this assumption.

In any case, it's really weird where life rolls you. At this new job, I'm dealing with VHDL far more than ever before, already written thousands of lines of synthesizable code, as well as testbench code. And now I'm pulled into Ada, to interface that VHDL from an embedded micro-controller.
