what's that Orkut thing, anyway ?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't understand the point behind Orkut and similar "friends" sites.

OK, so you signed up to Orkut, you invited your friends. What next ? How much time a day do you spend in front of Orkut ? What do you do during this time, except for inviting other people ?
