		<description>I already did all the work for you several years ago as part of BitPim.  The code also extracts port descriptions, driver information and versions, detects conditions like ports existing but not plugged in (eg USB devices).  Have a look at http://bitpim.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/bitpim/trunk/bitpim/src/comscan.py?view=markup which you can run standalone.

It is currently GPL2+ but if that is a problem email me and I&#039;ll relicense.</description>
