By the way, when I studied Introduction to Cryptology at the <a href="http://www.technion.ac.il/" rel="nofollow">Technion</a>, Eli Biham was my lecturer. I would expect Biham to be more well known for the (first public) invention of differential cryptanalysis than for Serpent, which lost the “elections” to become AES.
