Book review: “Call of the wild” by Jack London

I recall I read quite a few books by London when I was a kid, all in Russian. So, I wanted to see how London sounds in English and downloaded this book from the internet (it’s copyright is over) onto my Palm.

“Call of the wild” is the story of Buck, a mixed st. bernard - collie dog that is sold to Alaska to serve as a sled dog during the gold rush. The book is told from the unusual viewpoint of the dog, and follows Buck’s gradual transition from a docile house dog to an alpha male in a wolf pack, his return “to the wild”. It is considered a children’s book by some, a fact I doubt because of quite a few scenes of brutal violence. Personally I found the scene with the moose very disturbing.

All in all this book is a great way to pass a couple of hours,
