Boston - days 5 and 6

The conference

The conference is in high gear now and I’m spending most of my time at lectures. Most of the lectures so far have been OK at most - I can’t say I learned much new stuff, but at least I’m getting exposed to the things that are currently going on in the industry. I did write down a few notes that may prove helpful when I return to work, however. In particular, that was an interesting lecture on implementing USB interfaces on Wednesday afternoon which was quite useful - I didn’t have any previous experience with this stuff so I gained some insights.

On Tuesday lunch-time I finally met the other guy from Rafael - we bumped into each other accidentally. It appears that there are a few more Israelis here, and even one of the lecturers once lived in Israel and spoke some Hebrew with us.

The exhibition

Wow this is one huge exhibition, it takes hours to just see all the different booths and the stuff presented. There is a lot of commercial “kitch” going on, but it’s kinda nice since you can get lots of presents :-) I already collected a small backpack, 3 t-shirts and a bunch of pens from various companies. Two of the t-shirts came from static code analysis companies that present a piece of C code and promise to give a tshirt to anyone who finds a bug. Then they show you how their tool finds this bug automatically (lint on steroids). Interesting stuff.

Barnes & Noble

There’s a shopping mall near the convention center and it has one very desirable location for me - a huge Barnes & Noble shop. I’ve already written about it on the first day, bu yesterday I discovered that it’s about twice larger than I previously thought. It’s huge and contains lots of books on practically every topic. So I’ve been browsing it for hours, whenever I find some free time :-)

Tomororow - back home

Tomorrow (Thursday) is the last day of the conference. There are interesting classes in the morning, but afternoon I think I’ll skip and go to MIT once again - I want to visit its “gift shop” for geeky MIT merchandize :-) I’ll try to get into a subway since my time will be limited. In any case my flight to NY is at 19:00 so I think I’ll make it. Hopefully there will be no delays with Delta’s flight (unlike on the way here) - my flight to TA is at 23:50 - wouldn’t want to miss that.
