Waking up with sirens ain’t fun
July 17th, 2006 at 5:38 amThis morning we were waken up at 5:55 AM by the sound of sirens wailing all over Haifa. We don’t have a bomb shelter in our home, but the bedroom is quite safe, facing south and separated by at least 2 walls from outside in every direction except for one which is a small garden. So, armed by knowledge of probability we convince ourselves that a rocket hitting this garden is an event with a very low chance to happen and don’t worry too much. At least now I know for sure there will be no work today.
Such is the routine in the north of Israel these last few days. Yesterday the rockets have officially reached the Haifa area, killing 8 people in a railroad maintenance facility and cutting our workday short at 9:00. After a few hours in the bomb shelter, it was decided to send the employees home.
This may take time but in the end we will win. The terrorists relied strongly on Israel’s weak back lines - where citizens accustomed to a high standard of living won’t sustain a long campaign. But they were wrong, and this is the greatest power of Israel today. The public will hold out, and will be backing up the military until this war ends, which shouldn’t take too long. The IDF will eventually weaken the Hizbullah enough to allow the Lebanese army to take over its own country.
Our cause is just, we are right and we will win.
