hiking boots
June 17th, 2005 at 11:22 amAnna and I both needed good hiking boots, for the trek we plan in Nepal this fall, for future treks and just for the usual one-day hikes here.
So we breathed deeply and bought us boots yesterday - it’s a big investment but everyone says it’s worth it - the boots are the most important thing about the trek - you want your feet, knees and back safe.
For me we got Asolo Fugitive GTX, and for Anna The North Face Conness GTX. It took us about a hour to pick the boots, and now it appears we made a good choice - their reviews are excellent.
I feel very comfortable in my boots. They have the features I need:
(*) strong and high heel / ankle support. I feel securely enclosed in the ankle area, which is a good feeling on a rough terrain. (*) solid toe area, it feels like you can kick rocks and not feel anything. (*) very strong sole. (*) Gore-tex, which means they don’t get wet. All in all I’m satisfied, I feel very good in these boots.
Now we have to “soften” them with a few hikes before October, coming to a long trek with new boots is not advised.
The financial damage: about $170 per pair, which makes them, by far, the most expensive pair of shoes/boots I own
