Today I found out that there was a major restructure in our dept. My manager moved away to another role (in a different group) and was replaced by one of the engineers - my friend !

On one hand it’s very good. Many people disliked the previous manager and some even began leaving the group, the new manager is everybody’s friend. OTOH, how is it to be managed by a friend ? It’s an interesting ethical challenge, for us, and even more so for her.

Anyway I wish her luck and hope that it’s a change to the good.
