when it’s your first day at work

My wife has her first day at work today. It’s always exciting, as I recall when I had them. But she told me something that reminded me of the less exciting stuff…

On the first day at work one usually gets a heap of stuff to read. Guidelines, user manuals, documentation, descriptions of tools used, etc. For the employer it’s pretty simple to give the employee a few days to read stuff, to “get into the picture”.

But for the poor fella on his(her) first day at work, it’s boring to read all this stuff. The first day passes nicely because there are a lot of new people to meet, but later (2nd, 3rd day) it gets burdensome-ly boring.

I hope it will be easier for her than what I know from my experience (of myself, and people whom I supervised on their first work days).
