back from the vacation !

So, we’re back from our vacation in Spain.

The short story: it was great.

The long story: I’ll write down my impressions
in this journal, not all of them at once, but
when I feel like it, and as much as I feel like (and
remember) at a time. I have neither the skill nor
the intention to lay down a detailed story in chronological
order, so these will mostly be thoughts and memories,
spread as they come into my head.

Spain is a beautiful country with beautiful and nice
people - this is roughly my “general” impression.
I didn’t see all the Spaniards and all of Spain, so the
above is a gross generalization, but it is what I
feel from what I have seen. We have only visited
the vicinity of Barcelona - the Catalonia district. That
is - Barcelona itself, Girona (sounds “Heerona”),
Figueras (where Salvador Dali was born) and a lot
of small towns on the
Costa Brava (which is the coast that lays between
Barcelona and the French border): Santa Sussana (where
we stayed), Pineda De Mar, Calella (ll sounds like
“y” in Spanish), Tossa De Mar, Emporio Brava, Malgrat
De Mar and Blanes.

Costa in Spanish is “coast”, Brava is “wild”, and indeed
the coast surprises in its “virginity”. Although there are
densely settled areas and large cities on it, it still
looks very natural. When we go to the beach here in Israel,
we are accustomed to sun roofs, dressing rooms, tables to
sit by, etc. On the Costa Brava, there is almost none of
this. A young Spaniard rents “beach beds” for a respectable
sum, and that’s about it. There are even no lifeguards !
Well, there are, but they can hardly see or save anyone.
On the beach to which we went a couple of times, there
was a lifeguard tower somewhere in the beginning of the
beach, under a palm, and how exactly was it supposed to
monitor kilometres of beach around it ?

This is all very different from Israel, as if the Spaniards
are keen for some danger and spice in their lives, totally
in contrast of us, who have enough of it even without
trying. I’ll probably have more to say about this stuff
later.

That’s enough for now, it’s time to go shopping for some
food (the fridge was emptied before the vacation, and
for some unknown reason it is still empty…).
